One of the biggest and upcoming metalcore bands in Europe is Caliban. A few years ago Caliban was just a hard working band who played a lot of shows; in that time the band also released some albums which are now legendary, for example: “The Split Program” with Heaven Shall Burn.
In 2004 Caliban released their first album on Roadrunner and now (2006) it’s time for their second release on this label. The newest weapon they’re throwing at us is called: “The Undying Darkness”.
In the last review (album called “The Opposite From Within”, you can find it in the archives) I wrote that Caliban sounded a bit like Killswitch Engage and, well, they still do. “The Undying Darkness” sounds more melodic then their last effort and there are more clean singing lines. | |
Sometimes you can hear the nice voice from singer Andy Doner, but most of the times you hear clean vocals.
One highlight of this album are the guest vocals from Mille Petrozza (Kreator). He takes part in the song “Moment Of Clarity”.
I’m very disappointed in Caliban as a band, but I can’t say anything bad about this album because the parts fit well with each other and “The Undying Darkness” is well produced. This job was done by Anders Friden (In Flames frontman). The mixing and mastering was done by mister Andy Sneap who’s renowned for his work with Killswitch Engage, Machine Head, Arch Enemy and a lot more. I’m curious how long this band will get respect from their first fans.
