After four years Doro is back with a new album, ‘Warrior Soul’ is the follow up to the 2002 release ‘Fight’. Between both albums this most famous metal goddess of Germany released ‘Classic Diamond’ a compilation with cooperation of an orchestra. To be true it’s hard to imagine that ‘Warrior Soul’ is a new album. The music on it is timeless, but, could have been written decades ago as well.
The few exceptions, the title track for example which is rather bombastic (something I really like), stand out big time. As with the predecessor this new album also has a slight live feeling to it. | |
The use of echo strengthens this effect and suits the music well.
‘You’re My Heart’, one of the two singles is my least favorite track. The vocals sound slightly hollow in the mix and the tremble in Doro’s voice reminds me of Melissa Etheridge.
Listening to the new album I find myself worrying about one thing. I feel that Doro should keep trying to innovate her music and keep showing claws (specially music wise) because she approaches the threshold of AOR.
No one likes to see the goddess of metal become the goddess of AOR!
