For all those among you who are interested in several kinds of music and also like rock music, listen to Vulgar Pang and their debut-album “Pleasures of Schizophrenia”. This is a refreshing album witch has combined a lot of different kinds of music with rock (early Black Sabbath and Deep Purple). You will have to listen the album several times but it will get better every time.

Vulgar Pang is a unique power rock ensemble out of the Midwest, formed around the diverse song writing and gothic baritone of frontman Craig Hawkinson. Vulgar Pang is a musical experience that brings a maniacal blend of rock with elements of funk, ska, punk, and power rock ... occasionally laying back into the realm of acoustic ballads.

The intro to “Varcoulacha” is very surprising: jazz music, followed by howling guitar playing and a heartbreaking scream. This song has typical early Black Sabbath riffs with violins and a metal guitar solo and it ends as it started with jazz music.

“Divided by Zero/River City Blues” takes 9.27 minutes and is the longest track of the album. Actually the track exists of 2 songs, “Divided by Zero” reminds me of the rock music of the 70th, “River City Blues” has influences of ska-music, “Celebrate Yourself” is a refreshing rock/funk song with sax-solo, not my favourite instrument (it’s hard to sit still with these songs)! “Inspiration” is a really heavy song with Hammond-organ and some quite moments. “No one will find us” and “Valentine Jezus” are ballads that remind me strongly to Tom Waits. “Brander” is a teenage rock song.

My favourite song is “Tangier” the heaviest song with heavy riffs and great guitar solo. Vulgar Pang has made a very varied rock-album, a real Pleasure of Schizophrenia, I like it.
