Spooner isn’t just another young rock band from the Netherlands, they are a promising new band from my home country. After a few demo’s the band finally managed to release their full length debut on Bridge III Records. The self titled album features twelve tracks that all have one thing in common: the intro of each and every song sounds so familiar, that at first listening you immediately feel pretty comfortable with the music.

Despite the fact that Spooner obvious ‘stole’ some great ideas from their main influences, the band manages to create a distinctive sound very close to present day pop rock. When after ten to fifteen seconds you’ve managed to pinpoint the reference, the band kicks in, immediately wiping away the memory.

The intro of opener ‘Cocainestar’ seems to be ripped from Garland Jeffreys ‘Hail Hail Rock ‘n Roll’ but that doesn’t matter. Spooner cleverly turn this one in a solid rocker that sets the standard for the following eleven tracks.

Most of the music is defined by clear vocals, kicking choruses and some rough guitar solos.
As on almost every debut album there are a few tracks that fall short (largely the more straight forward rockers), but all in all this debut is one to be proud of.
