“Son Of Sulpher” is the second full length of Crowpath after the 2004 “Red On Chrome”. The concept, or at least the general theme for this release is fire. From the cover art(a man holding two gigantic burnt matches) to the album title and song titles (“Candles And Kerosene”, “Seed Of Arson”): everything revolves around said theme.

The music in on one hand hyper nervous death-grind-jazz-metalhardcore in the Dillinger Escape Plan/Cephalic Carnage vein and on the other hand weird sludge/stoner death metal which is undeniably the more original part.
Especially tracks like “Children Of Boredom”, with a weird spine-chilling organ in it and the impressive “The Lycanthrope” really show that the slower side of Crowpath is the most interesting one.

“The Lycanthrope” is musically almost a drone doom track if not for the haunting voice of Henrik Ivarsson. The crazy guitar effects only add to the atmosphere, making this track the strongest on “Son Of Sulpher”
The faster tracks are not to be underestimated as well, they are played with skill and precision but after hearing “The Lycanthrope”, they tend to be a little nervous and less interesting.

Obviously Crowpath love two different styles of metal and decided to put them both on a cd. I don’t know which style will be more popular but I do know my favourite and I hope they’ll continue in that direction because that makes them truly unique instead of just good.
