‘In Loving Memory’, the latest effort by Californian Last Falling, kept me walking up and down to the stereo. After a few notes to turn up the volume; after three tracks to turn the volume down, to turn it op again one or two tracks later. What starts out as an interesting album, the fierce opener ‘Delight For A Passion’ really grabs you by the throat, turns out to be rather average grunge rock, leaning on the success of nineties bands like Stone Temple Pilots and Nirvana for example. | |
There are a few absolute highlights, but just not enough to get over-excited. On the positive side this means that ‘In Loving Memory’ is far from boring. In grunge rock in general this is quite an accomplishment. Another compliment I can make is that the band managed to record a solid and very promising single ‘Callus Heart’, a perfect and rare balance between grunge and pop/rock.
