‘In Loving Memory’, the latest effort by Californian Last Falling, kept me walking up and down to the stereo. After a few notes to turn up the volume; after three tracks to turn the volume down, to turn it op again one or two tracks later. What starts out as an interesting album, the fierce opener ‘Delight For A Passion’ really grabs you by the throat, turns out to be rather average grunge rock, leaning on the success of nineties bands like Stone Temple Pilots and Nirvana for example.

There are a few absolute highlights, but just not enough to get over-excited. On the positive side this means that ‘In Loving Memory’ is far from boring. In grunge rock in general this is quite an accomplishment. Another compliment I can make is that the band managed to record a solid and very promising single ‘Callus Heart’, a perfect and rare balance between grunge and pop/rock.
