One might wonder why Luca Turilli stepped into yet another musical project besides Rhapsody and his solo projects. As a matter of fact, the third solo album by Turilli is released early June as well as ‘Lost Horizons’, the debut of Luca Turilli’s Dreamquest. Listening to the latter, the answer is pretty clear. The symphonic electro metal (some gothic metal influences in here as well) with female vocals and Luca on keyboard is quit different from all the other projects, and a time long dream of the musical mastermind, who doesn’t touch a single guitar on ‘Lost Horizons’. According Turilli this project stands out because of the personal touch, in music as in words.
Most tracks are characterized by bombast, opera choirs and most of all great melodies. What I like about the female vocalist is that her contribution is diverse in melody and tonation and truly is part of the music (where in the goth rock scene vocals can be dominant over music). | |
There are some excellent Italian lyrics in here as well. ‘Sospiro Divino’ is without question the one that made the deepest impression. The delicate piano by Turilli and the exciting native sung vocals touch deep. It’s hard to pinpoint another highlight because of the simple fact that all songs are of high quality. Turilli is at least as good on keyboards as he is on guitar. He produces the best of soundscapes and excellent, haunting melodies. The only negative point I can think of so far –I’ll be listening to this one at least for the next couple of months– is the use of some vocal distortion in ‘Shades Of Eternity’. Still this track comes very close to the overall high standard.
