There are three reasons why I wanted to review the debut of the progressive rock band Believe. One: being that Believe is a Polish band, as is Riverside, one of the hottest bands in the genre today. Second: the fact that the band features two members of the best Polish band ever: Collage. Third being that the album is released by a small label called Galileo Records, who also signed the excellent Italian prog. band Moongarden.
With Believe Galileo Records hit the bull’s eye again. ‘Hope To See Another Day’ is a debut to be proud of. The band combines complex structures with basic melodies, something that works out perfectly. This is one of those rare albums you like at first listen and immediately know that you won’t get bored with it, no matter how often you play it. | |
One of the best efforts is the compelling qualities, usually a combination of keyboards and guitars and distinctive for Polish progressive rock so it seems.
‘Pain’ is one of the best tracks. The band shifts down a gear and pulls out the saddest of stories and bringing to light the purest beauty of the at times slightly husky vocals of Tomek Rozcki. The larger part of the eight tracks average between five and eight minutes, except for the closing track ‘Hope To See Another Day’. This slowly and carefully built up twelve minute epic is a worthy ending to a fine debut, showing all the potential of the band.
