Twenty-five years after the first and great MSG album Michael Schenker celebrates his anniversary of MSG with a brand new cd, entitled “Tales of Rock ‘n’ Roll”. The celebrating part of the “Tales of Rock ‘n’ Roll” is filled in by songs that are sung by all the previous singers of MSG, each one has sung a new song.
After the split in 1979 with UFO, Michael Schenker released in 1980 MSG1; an album which has been of great importance to hard rock music. In the last 25 years Schenker experienced great moments and also some bad periods. In the last couple of years he released the instrumental Thank You albums. The reason why you can read in the interview I`ve done with him recently. It is noticeable that those two Thank You-albums have given Schenker new energy. Together with a new Norwegian singer (Jari Tiura), Pete Way and Jeff Martin, Schenker has made “Tales of Rock’n’ Roll” a very strong album full of reborn energy. | |
The guitar solos are superb and do remind me of the UFO-period and the MSG 1 and 2 albums, they sound great and are made in a way only Schenker can play. New singer Jari has a great voice; he really fits in the MSG-concept.
There are no bad songs on this album; from the songs with the former singers of MSG I like the song “Rock and Roll”, sung by Graham Bonnet, very much. “Assault Attack” was one of my favourite albums and Bonnet is one of my favourite singers. He is a singer you like or hate. (For those who hate him, don’t be afraid he’s only singing one song.)
This album is without any doubt one of the best MSG-albums, if you are MSG-fan, just buy and enjoy “Tales of Rock’n’ Roll”!
