Judging from the cover, this is a band that makes serious heavy music. A blonde female with flowers on her arm and completely covered in blood. The promo leaflet describes this music as being (yet another self-invented genre) goth’n’roll. So this should be interesting….. But after hearing the first tracks of this album, the ‘n’roll is the only thing that sticks. If the promo hadn’t mentioned gothic in their papers this band would be qualified as pure rock’n’roll, which sounds a lot like “Motörhead” and “The Hellacopters”. Of course, if you try hard one could find some influences from typical Finnish gothic metal like “Sentenced”, “To/Die/For” and “Tearstained”, but it’s mainly phat rock that these people from Sweden are serving us. The album cover is extremely gothic though; maybe even black. A warning to gothic and black metal lovers: don’t be misled by appearance. | |
Every rock’n’roll freak should pay attention though, for this is high quality music. By far not surprising, inventive and original, this album is well produced and the musicians know how to play. Vocals are a bit weird being sung through what appears to be an old distorted microphone, but it fits the music well. Drums are on the mark, no furious double bass, classic guitar riffs and catchy choruses. To bad that in the end it starts to sound all the same: the tracks are all in the same tempo and there is little variation. This album should have been 8 tracks long, for 11 tracks can be somewhat of an “overkill”, especially with the small amount of variation. The opening song “Love Our Hell” is one of the strongest songs of the album, so when in the stores don’t judge it by only the first track. In all solid well played uninspired rock. (Matthijn) |
