There are more bands with the name Chimaera or something alike but this review is about the new album from the Belgian metalcore band Chimaera (www.chimaerametal.com).
This Belgian band was formed in 2000 and soon they played all over Europe.
Personally I can’t remember that I ever heard some music from them so I’m again very curious.
The only thing I could say while listening the first tunes was: watch out for the next 45 minutes!

The first couple of songs are really good brutal sounding songs with also some mosh-parts and guitar solos.
When “Marching Into The Hell” starts there’s a surprise. This song has Rogier Stormrider as a guest vocalist (although he’s unknown to me he sings in Stormrider and Powervice). This guy sings like Tim Ripper Owens (Judas Priest, Iced Earth and nowadays with Beyond Fear), this is a really good sounding surprise.

After that there’s another nice surprise. The next song (“We Are The Plague”) is just a cool and dark sounding piano song.

“Stygian” is not as every metalcore album nowadays produced, mixed and mastered by mister Tue Madsen. This album was produced by Xavier Carion (who’s famous for his guitar playing in Channel Zero). The mixing was taken care of by Frederik Nordstrom (famous for his work with In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy etc.) and last but not least the mastering was done by Goran Finnberg (also famous, he worked with Opeth, In Flames etc.). The guys did a wonderful job, the album sounds brutal and heavy.

“Stygian” is a masterpiece and should bring this band to the top of the European metal scene.
