This split cd promises us to take us back to the eighties; the age when metal and punk first met and a crossover style was born. Thrashcore was the result and now, more than twenty years later De Waonzin and Nuestros Derechos combine forces to relive that time once more.
The first half of the split is for De Waonzin and they kick of furiously with "AO Godverdomme" ("AO Goddamnit"). It soon becomes clear that De Waonzin is not the most technical band ever but what they lack in skill they make up with enthusiasm.
The track, and the following three are catchy and aggressive and paint in my mind a picture of highschool parties where local bands like Radical Retard and the likes used to play.
Maybe I`m biased because I have those sentiments of my youth but fact is that this is party music!
The second part of "Split `Em All" is for Nuestros Derechos and where the approach of De Waonzin to thrashcore is from a metal point of view, Nuestros Derechos take it the other way around. | |
The tracks are rooted in the punk/hardcore corner but are spiced up with the occasional metal ingredient
The third track "De Strop" reminds me heavily of Hersenletsel but I doubt anyone out there will know them anymore...
The mastering by Alan Douches, who also worked with Sepultura, Dillinger Escape Plan, Hatebreed and many others, gives "Split `Em All" the power it needs and the old school cover painting really contributes to the overall feeling of this split.
Musically Nuestros Derechos is the stronger band here I think but I like De Waonzin better. So once again it`s a matter of taste but if you have any interest in or are longing for old thrashcore this is the one to get. Copies can be obtained from www.drummerszone.com while they last.
