When I took this cd out of the envelop I thought: ”Well well well, what have we here? Grindcore?” So I fed the disc to my hungry stereo, turned up the volume and braced for impact on my chair… and nothing happened. I’m no super grindgorehead, but when I listen to grindgore, I expect to get a sonic kick in the teeth from the first note on, production wise speaking. This just doesn’t happen because the production of this album is not heavy enough. It is rather transparent, a bit to reverbish and the snare sucks big time. A plus side is that you can hear what every instrument is playing, which I think, is not a bad thing.

And now for the music. Entwined by Vengeance already hit the stores in the end of August 2005, but I received this two weeks ago so I am going to review this anyway. This Austrian 4 man band plays old school deathmetal with some grindy touches to it. Think a little along the lines of Brutal Thruth’s Extreme Conditions… and Napalm Death’s Utopia Banished, and you are well underway of forming an idea.

The songs are ok constructed and I like the furiousity that has been put into all the tracks. BUT! It’s all pretty standard. There’s absolutely nothing off the beaten path here. And I am missing a kind of drive in the musicians. That drive that’s like: “This record will kick ass!!”. The spooky instrumental guitar part on the beginning of “Entwined by Vengeance” (the last track) is enjoyable. It swells on to, what you think is, the beginning of another song. Then Mr. Bush says a few words and then... it ends! The end of the cd!! WTF? You’d expect at least another song coming after that.

I hope that next time these well dressed (they are endorsed by two clothing brands) grindboys will spend less time on their clothing and more time on their next album. If you are into old school death and/or grind, you can check it out, but Entwined by Vengeance is just another album that drowns in a sea of releases just like this one.
