I was a little surprised when I received this CD. The cover as well as the album title suggests I`m dealing with a hardcore album, but appearances are deceptive. The music played on Herod`s third full length release is pure power metal and nothing more.
Herod was formed late 2000 and have released two full length albums before releasing "Rich mans war..." Despite of what the title suggests, Herod plays up-tempo power metal, nothing original and nothing we’ve never heard before. Although the band does not consist out of the best musicians you’ve ever heard, you can hear the joy with which they play their songs. | |
The style lies buried deep in the eighties power metal history. Bands like Iron Maiden and perhaps some Metal Church are the first names that come in my head. The joy which the songs are played with absolutely saves the album because the songs at it self aren`t that special. All is not played very bad and the band absolutely knows how to write good and solid metal songs, but it simply doesn`t grab my throat like a metal album should do.
With `Rich Man`s War` Herod delivers a solid metal album, nothing new and nothing special, but I think their will be thousands of die hard power metal fans who will appreciate it. (David) |
