“Karmacode” is already the 6th full album of the Italian gothic metal band Lacuna Coil. Earlier this year they released the single “Our Truth”; this song is representative for the material on “Karmacode”, heavy songs with a lot of power and both charming and powerful voices and unfortunately only little space for guitar solos. The sound is really superb, heavy and yet clear; the basics of the heavy songs were written by Marco ( bass guitar), Eriz (drums) and Chris and Maus (guitar), especially the bass guitar is very powerful but yet supporting the song, this is what I call really bold bass riffs. The combination of those heavy riffs and the voices (Christina an Andrea) makes up the special Lacuna Coil sound.

Although the songs on “Karmacode” have quite some different atmospheres (Arabic melodies, (power)ballads, Italian song texts, metal riffs) after a while the songs do seem to be quite similar to each other, it gets a little irritating. With “The Game” the band shows that guitar solos indeed do have an added value to a song, it has the typical Lacuna Coil sound, heavy guitar riffs and a subtle guitar solo. I think the solo subscribes the power of Lacuna Coil, I like this song. Favorite songs are “Our Truth”, “The Game” and “Within Me”, last one starts as a ballad and flows out into a great power ballad; they are all great Lacuna Coil metal songs.
