The young musicians of the Dutch band Maze only needed one track to convince this reviewer of their huge potential. The following three just confirmed my finding. What impressed me most is the ease with which the band explores different sides of rock music with an original wit. No obvious references but original yet catchy/popular melodies and powerful female vocals all lead to a complete package you usually expect from bands that are playing together for years.
This band seems to have no trouble in defining its own sound.

Opening track “To Me” is the most powerful track as one might expect: driving drums, excellent breaks, original guitar play and a kick ass refrain.

“Dreamin” starts off with fragile guitar chords and the delicate vocals of Maartje; showing the true beauty of her instrument.
This more laid back track seem to fit her voice slightly better, she reminds a bit of Jewel (“Foolish Games”). “Soldiers Of Suburbia” is the closing track. It’s more up tempo and features some nice distorted vocals and some venomous guitar soloing. This is an impressive EP.
I hope that the full length debut album will be as good as this effort.
