Maybe you recognise this, you are listening to a new album and you know for sure that you have heard this song before but you don’t know what it is. It happened to me with the Italian band Triskell and its album “Never Explain”. After a long search I’ve found out that the songs on this album (especially “I See Dead People” and “Secrets Behind The Lie” – listen to the intro) do remind me of ……….. Paradise Lost – One Second (1997). Listen to the similarities, I think is almost the same song!

Triskell are considering themselves a gothic band but I think the band is more a psychedelic band with metal, rock and funk influences. The vocals sound some kind of dejected, the guitar solo’s (by Mauro) are the opposite, they are great and sound bright and yet are fitting the psychedelic songs.

The songs are quite depressive (listen to the intro of “Mesmerized”) and most songs have a duration of more than 5 minutes.
As mentioned above Triskell is an Italic band, as many Italian bands the vocals (Cerry) need more attention, quite often he’s difficult to understand. Sometimes his singing is on the edge, I’m curious to his performance at the gigs.

Favourite songs are definitely “Forever” (great solos), “Mesmerized” (just a great song) and “Unfinished” (heavy!).

After all “Never Explain” is a psychedelic album with roots in the past and with elements (solos, bright sound and beautiful psychedelic spheres) of the present. With better vocals the rate would have been higher definitely.
