This Celtic pagan metal band, that started as a studio project, turned into a touring band. With their successful debut-EP ‘Vên’, it all started for Eluveitie. Now they’re ready to release a new album, called “Spirit”.

When I heard the first track, I was happily surprised; the rest of the album seemed to be promising. Unfortunately it disappointed me a bit. The other tracks weren’t surprising anymore, it all sounded a bit the same.

Musically the band mix pagan metal with melodic death metal. A nice idea perhaps, but it just doesn’t sound well.

The blasting drums dominate too much and the death metal riffs don’t fit the music. A pity, because when you leave those two things away it sounds pretty good to me.

With this album, Eluveitie claim they reached a higher level and compete with the leading bands in the pagan metal scene. Well, all I can say about that is that I don’t agree with them.

Not really a recommending, but when you like Cruachan, Skyforger and Thyrfing, this can be worth listening to.
