Cataract is a band from Switzerland and they played all over the world the last few years. So if you don’t know Cataract you were asleep or you don’t like metalcore. For those who were asleep, here’s a quick introduction.
Cataract saw the light in the year 1998. As almost every band Cataract started as a project. After a demo, 7 inch and some records on Lifeforce Records the band signed a deal with Metalblade in 2004. The same year they released “When Triumph Come Loss”. This album gave Cataract more changes to play and put them on the map in Europe.
The year 2006. Cataract went to the Antfarm studio (this is what every metalcore band does nowadays) and recorded their newest effort: “Kingdom”.
The sound on “Kingdom” is great, precisely what you would expect from Tue Madsen. This guy always delivers a good job. After the intro the brutal sound doesn’t stop for 40 minutes. The songs are sounding great with a lot of moshparts and guitar solo’s. | |
With this album Cataract proofs that they can write good and strong songs. Unfortunately all the songs sound a lot alike. Every song has the same idea: moshpart, guitar solo.
I want to call some attention for vocalist Frederico Carminitana. This guy has got a super voice. The voice sounds brutal and clean at the same time. I think he has the best voice at this very moment in the metalcore scene.
This is an album for fans of the new hate (that’s how Metalblade calls metalcore). For other people who are getting sick of all those metalcore shit nowadays I can say: "listen to it once or twice and give it a chance."
At this moment the band is working on a video for the song “Denial of Life”. When the video is ready you can download it from the Cataract site (www.cataract-collective.com).
