These guys hail from Finland and play stoner rock. I have to admit that I am not a stoner type of guy, but I’m always in for something else… Well, dear reader, you can safely say that the guys from Mannhai have succeeded in convincing me after I hitched a ride on their “Hellroad Caravan”. Read on why.

This is my first acquaintance with the band. I am not familiar with their former material which spans about three CD’s. That makes “Hellroad Caravan” their fourth full length and the first featuring Mannhai’s new vocalist Pasi Koskinen (ex-Amorphis). Pasi replaces Janitor Muurinen, who left the band last year.
Mister Koskinen perfectly holds his own on this CD. His voice smoothly blends with the music and, judging by a couple of earlier tracks I checked out at their site, he also seems to sound more ‘adventurous’ then his predecessor.
The rest of the band are just as accomplished a musician as Pasi is.

They do a fine job at playing the music, rumbling stoner/retro rock with some wonderful solo`s, which surely will please fans of bands like Spiritual Beggars, Orange Goblin and more. People who like the aforementioned bands, can buy “Hellroad Caravan” practically blindfolded.
Mannhai couldn’t have timed it better to release “Hellroad Caravan”. Because this is a CD that’s fit for the summer. Just sell your car, buy a convertible, play “Hellroad Caravan” in your car stereo with the volume insanely loud and drive straight to the beach or some other far away destination while the sun warms your skull. That’s the feeling I get from listening to Mannhai.

This CD will certainly find its way back to my stereo again. And for now I can only say: Don’t be late if you want to join the “Hellroad Caravan”.
