Damn, this new Kopecky album is fucking hard to review. The instrumental prog music by these American brothers is best labelled as experimental. The compositions are very clever. The sound is solid as a rock. Very powerful and pretty impressive. Rating however seem to be almost impossible. The main question is: how often am I going to listen to this prog extravagance and how much would I like listening to it? First of all, all tracks are all worth listening to. There’s not a single composition that falls short. Second, “Blood” is without doubt a diverse album. I promise you, you won’t get bored with it easily. So far so good I hear you think. | |
Here’s where the trouble starts for this reviewer. I am just not sure whether I’m really up for this stuff and most of all whether I’m going to listen to this album ever again. There’s just too much unease, to many strange sounds, too much power to really, truly enjoy the music. I feel appreciation for the musicians for creating this stuff, but I’m also slightly sad because I fear that only few people have got what it takes to truly enjoy listening to “Blood”. Well, at least they succeeded in their aim to create music that suggests beauty, violence and passion, which in itself quite an achievement. (Geert) |
