Though I don`t like Ska at all, I dared myself to this inimitable album, called Keasbey Nights, which is a re-recording of Catch 22’s Keasbey Nights. Of course with some musical and lyrical changes.
I amazed myself about the fact that this album was made possible by 13 musicians. There are people who play on the saxophone, on the trumpet, the trombone, hand percussion, there`s a guitarist and a bass player, there are gang vocals and background vocals. But, most of the ode goes out to Tomas Kalnoky. He can be seen as the one person behind Streetlight Manifesto. He is doing the vocals, the guitar playing, the words, the mixing ánd he writes all the lyrics.
Since I`m not familiar with Catch 22`s Keasbey Nights, I can`t name any differences or similarities between that album and the version performed by Streetlight Manifesto, but I can tell you that this is an impressive album. | |
The singing is amazingly fast and all the instruments together are creating a full sound.
Nice to mention is that the tenth song, “Supernothing”, was originally performed by Kalnoky’s first band, Gimp. Another track that may not be forgotten is “Kristina she don’t know I exist”, which features different instruments during the instrumental solo.
An interesting addition can be found at the end of the last track. There is an interview conducted by computer voices, explaining why the album was made.
