Dark at Dawn is the fifth album of the same called German metal band and the second one on the AMF-label. Considering the band’s name you should expect dark metal, well you want be disappointed because that is exactly what you are going to get. The voice of singer Thorsten Kohlrausch definitely fits with the music. His brutal voice sounds aggressive and mean. His voice would turn a love story into a horror event. Torsten Sauerbrey has proven himself to be a multi musician, he is playing drums, guitars and keyboards. Together with Michael Lowin (bass) they are the devilish engine of Dark at Dawn. During live gigs a guest musician is added to the band. The music is best described as dark metal, sometimes up-tempo (Alliance, Crossbreed) then again slowing a bit down (Avalon) and the other time melodic heavy metal (Dark And Dawn, The Ones with Fury Eyes).

Of course there is the inevitable ballad The Passage, a ballad without conviction and emotions. The song doesn’t add something to the album. If the band should come up with a single, Roses of Light would be the perfect song to do so; it’s almost poppy. My favorite song is Avalon, a song with a beautiful intro that changes into a doom metal song, the voice of Kohlrausch is sounding huge heavy, halfway there is an intermission with drums and flute and the ending is almost symphonic; great structure!
