The U.K. seems to be the pond filled with angry young bands. The assault on the popular modern metal USA bands seem to have started from the island (although one of the vocalist is form the USA nowadays). That age don’t matter much in this struggle is noticeable if you consider that these guys -accept one - is born in the 80’s. Maybe that makes it difficult to judge these guys in a good way. The music of AUTONOMY isn’t bad, but isn’t refreshing as well. It’s sure that some people out there will love this, but if you consider the competition there’s just so much better out there. Therefore it’s strange that a major like Columbia was interested in this band. AUTONOMY releases an album that’s well produced, but doesn’t have the skills yet to interest a whole album. | |
The songs don’t really have an own identity. Their writing skills should improve some more to make it work. The first two song ‘Shovel Affections’ and ‘But I Thought’ shows that the band has potential, but how longer the album less interested you will be. The two rap/ scream voices work well, but also here there’s the lack of change throughout the album. In the end this album got the ability to enjoy a lot of people, but if you’re critical enough you notice that you won’t play this album after a while. That’s the actual difference between a real killer or a possible filler. Fill in the answer yourself.
