Triglav is a new exponent of the eastern European scene of folky pagan black and they are worth some attention.
Hailing from Slovenia and drawing their name from a beautiful mountainous area in the northern part of that country, their debut is firmly entrenched in the quality style of metal brought successful to the fore by Nokturnal Mortum at their `Lunar Poetry`. For those who`s not too familiar with this sub genre, it can be described as taking the grayish metal approach perfected by early Vintersorg, increasing the speed, adding lots of those almost danceable melodies while maintaining the dark and nasty feel of early Scandinavian acts.
What Triglav accomplish, like NM, is incorporating Emperor-esque complex and unpredictable riffing that saves `When The Sun Is Rising Above The Earth` from being just another collection of fun beer slamming anthems like so many other folk metal discs. They even take it a step further and use traditional instruments like clavecimbel and flute along with grand keyboards to create neoclassical soundscapes.

It all works together quite effectively, although one minor flaw must be mentioned; they tend to overdo things and let all instrumentation go out there and let it loose without any restraint. At some points this results in extremely packed and busy passages that really aren`t necessary for the music to impress...just let your listeners breathe Triglav. The lyrics and artwork shine with love for their national past, which is approached as a pure, epic and romantic era, presumably so much better then everything in the present day - a vision overtly cherished by almost all other bands of their ilk. Triglav are one of the more interesting and certainly worth to check out. I am very curious to see if they will be able to further exploit their potential and make an ever better album in the future.
