In the early nineties there was a band that was inspired by the Vikings. The band started to make music about the Vikings and by doing that they created their own genre. The genre they created is called Viking metal and the band that created the genre is named Amon Amarth.
Since their beginning Amon Amarth is one of the biggest metalbands in Europe (and maybe the whole world). If you have seen them live or on the DVD that Metalblade released earlier this year you know why they are one the biggest bands. That’s because the Viking lovers are always up for a good show. I don’t think they ever will disappoint you when they are on stage.

For this album Amon Amarth visited another studio and worked with an other producer. That because of the sound on “Fate Of The Norms” wasn’t really a good sound and the band wanted something new. Amon Amarth visited, together with producer Jens Bogren, the Fascination Street Studios in Sweden to record their new effort.

So curious as I am, I started listening to “With Oden On Our Side”. The new album starts with a great song called: “Valhall Awaits me”. After a few seconds your hear the great voice from vocalist Jon Hegg and I’m dreaming about a Viking boat. The songs on this album have got the typical Amon Amarth up tempo. The difference between this release and “Fate Of The Norms” is defiantly that the sound is much better. The songs are almost the same, sometimes while listening I even think I’m listening to “The Fate Of The Norms”.

After hearing some new songs I got to the conclusion that Amon Amarth didn’t change their sound. All the songs are in the line of the six other Amon Amarth albums.
Amon Amarth is not the band that brings a new sound very fast. I don’t think they ever get another sound. “With Oden On Our Side” is a typical Amon Amarth album: Well played Viking metal.
