After a few line up changes, a lots of shows and some demo recordings, there is a first ep from Metalcore act Kudra Mata.
Drawing Influences from At The Gates, Unearth, Caliban (they also saying the haunted and misery signals on their site, but I do not hear those bands back)and tons of screamo/metalcore bands they recorded 3 songs. And unfortunately, not very original songs. I don’t think it’s bad to make some music that is done 300000 times before, if its still good. But that’s not exactly the case with this ep.
For Example ‘My Pledge’ starts with a fast riff that remind me of Old School Swedish Death Metal (at the gates etc.), somehow I have the feeling that it’s played too fast. But however, this song listens like there were some ideas sticked together instead of writing a coherent song. There is a breakdown in the middle of it, it seems to come out oof nowhere. This is a problem where lots of metalcore bands deal with. Why always a breakdown, it’s like an obligation to put it in a song. And often it doesn’t really add something to a song.
‘Between pictures and reality’ is a song that’s a little bit better, although it has too much lyrics. | |
There even is a sort of a solo in it and some modern riffs which you have heard over and over again and more cohesion.
‘Tomorrow dreams’ is a song wich i was impressed by live, it has a brutal beginning, but a riff that starting to get on my nerves. The sing a long part is done pretty cool.
Sometimes I miss some stability (drum patterns) and i sometimes have the feeling they left the studio too quick. On the other hand, they sure know how to play and vocalist Karel has a cool brutal voice.
I listened to this ep for about 12 times, but just couldn’t get into the music withouth thinking ‘pffffffff I’ve heard this too much and too often’. You just have to bring more than this to get noticed in the metalcore scene. It’s a sea that is getting too full. Maybe Kudra Mata evoluates and get better after playing live shows (and they’re pretty good live), working on more original patterns, and show they have some right to exist in this genre. For now, I think it’s not enough.
