Solid. That`s how I would like to describe "Way Beyond", the new release of the Swedish band Godgory. On their fourth release the band certainly shows that they have become more capable songwriters. Most of the songs are based on solid, progressive (modern) metal. The keyboards and the melodic guitar parts and solo`s gave this release the variation that it needed. At one moment you`re listening to some Rammstein a-like metal part, while the other moment your listening to an almost virtuous guitar solo or a keyboard landscape which we all know of the movies. So you never know what to expect. And that`s a good thing. "Way Beyond" certainly kept my attention. Vocally there`s also enough to hear. From a whispering deep voice to the usual death-grunts and screams. One other thing that I noticed was the use of samples in an original way. Listen for example to the great sample in "Final Journey" when you hear someone breathing through a machine that keeps the heart pumping. | |
You just have to come up with something like that. But although this has become a nice release I definitely missed the daredevil mentality. With some more up-tempo parts and more variation in the rhythms this release certainly had been better then it is right now. The production on the other hand is almost perfect and balanced so that every detail can be hearable. I guess the music of this band will be suitable for a large amount of metal-fans. Especially when you like catchy melodies and rhythms, great guitar solo`s, an industrial touch and grunt vocals you should go and check them out at your local supplier. I then would advice you to listen to songs as "Tear it Down" and "Payback", they give you a proper vision of what you can expect on the rest of the release. (Teun) |
