According to the documentary “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey” 1986 was the year that the metal music started. That’s the same year that Metallica released “Master Of Puppets” and the same year as the accident they had with their tour van. Everybody knows what a sad moment for metal music that was.
1986 was also the year of birth from Matthew K. Heafy. Matthew K. Heafy is the front man from Trivium and Trivium is the metal hope for the future.
Trivium is one of the fastest growing metalbands of this moment. Three years ago they had their debut on Lifefore Records and this year they already have their second Roadrunner release. Since their debut Trivium toured with Metallica, Iron Maiden, Machine Head etc. Last year Trivum played in almost every stadium and played at almost every festival, in the meantime the band founded some time to write their a new album. The expectations of this album where very high, will is this album be their big break through or was it so far just a lucky shot.
With opener “Ignition” Trivium directly shows us that it was not a lucky shot. The songs are following up in a fast tempo and Matthew shows us that he even can sing instead of screaming and the guy has got a nice voice. | |
The songs are full of good guitar solo’s and thrash riffs, it reminds me of Testament, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth etc. The songs are almost as good as the songs from those classic bands I mentioned. But the guys from Trivium are only 20 years old, so time enough to become one of the biggest bands in the world (that’s their dream).
A big plus about this album is that it is listenable for the commercial metalfan and the diehard metalfan, commercial metalfans are people who only listen to the mainstream metal. Trivium has found the balance between those listeners.
Trivium is hard on its way to become the Metallica of this century and “The Crusade” is an album for every metal fan, young and old. With this release the band proved that they are the leaders of the metal music nowadays.
The interview I had with Matthew a few months ago is available at this link.
