Draconian is a new name for me. They`re from Sweden and around since 1994, so I guess me not being into doommetal is the main reason for not knowing about there excistence. But then again, it took them 9 years to release their debut album. The Burning Halo is their third album and it sounds nice. A band like My Dying Bride comes to mind when I first listened to The Burning Halo. The deep and dark grunts combined with the really slow songs and the keyboard give the music a nice and evil atmosphere. The womans vocals give Draconian a gothic touch.

There is a downside to the total picture though. The drumming is just too boring to me. There`s nothing special done and during the complete album you only hear basic drumming.

I know doommetal isn`t really the kind of music where you would expect big drumsolo`s or whatever. But the drumming on this album is just plain boring. For me it drags the rest of the band and the songs down and I can only listen to five songs because of it.

The Burning Halo is a nice album, nothing more nothing less. It isn`t special or goundbreaking, just nice. With some more dynamics on the rythmsection the grade would have probably been a bit higher. To get a preview of one of their songs you can visit www.napalmrecords.com or www.draconian.se
