A few years ago Lifeforce records was known for putting out metalcore albums that made the metalcore scene in Europe really big. They had a certain style that they promoted and got big with. Bands like Trivium, Heaven Shall Burn and Caliban made Lifeforce records big and visaversa. But the last 2 or 3 years Lifeforce is signing bands that give the label a more divers look.
By Night is one of those band. I can`t really find a name for the music that they play. The vocals sound pretty hardcore to me, but musicwise it`s another story. By Night is really melodic, but not melodic in the way that bands like In Flames or Soilwork are. The band says that they`re influinced by Messugah, Fear Factory, The Haunted, Opeth and Extol.

This might give you a better idea of what the kind of music that By Night makes. The mixture of metal, hardcore and a progressive tough makes By Night a band that can`t really be compared to just one other name.

I guess By Night could interest both metal and hardcore oriented people. On their previous Lifeforce release "Burn The Flags" I was surprised by their power and great atmospheric songs. On "A New Shape Of Deperation" they continue convincing me that By Night is one of the coolest and freshest European bands around right now. Check this band out!!!
