Wingdom is a Finnish band consisting of young but experienced musicians. Sami S. Asp (vocals) is known of his collaboration with Derek Sherinian (Ex Dream Theater, Alice Cooper etc.) & Virgil Donati (Planet X, Steve Vai); Mikko Harkin (keyboard) is the ex-keysman of famous Finnish power metal band Sonata Arctica; Jarno Raitio (Bass) played with Rhapsody (of Fire); Jukka Ruotsalainen (Guitar) and Markus Niemispelto (Drums) played in numerous projects. So when I put the CD in my player I expected quite a lot from Wingdom.

To be honest I have to commit the album Reality is AMAZING!! The album has a great sound and production, you wouldn’t expect Reality to be debut CD.

After the first riffs it was clear to me Wingdom is a welcome new coming band in the progressive metal world. The vocals of Sami are a combination of Sir Russel Allen and James LaBrie.

The structure and melody of the songs are really great. The riffs are powerful, the bass playing is sometimes groovy than again very heavy and the drums, well to be short they are the backbone of the band. Don’t expect a Dream Theatre or Symphony X clone, the songs have surely elements of these bands but Wingdom has a sound of its own.

There are no weak moments on the album, absolutely superb songs are Time, Everyday, and Tomorrow. About Lighthouse PT2 I can be short, this song is one of the best progressive metal songs of this year, Lighthouse PT2 is an epic song that takes over 12 minutes, Sami’s sing is fabulous, the structure is superb, very impressive!!

What more can I say. To all progressive metal fans, buy this record and enjoy this music. This album is a must for your CD collection.
