Well, this is…something completely different. There are bands that are called Mr.Bungle, Dillinger Escape Plan, Cock and ball torture, Officer Jones and his patrol car problems and Rosa Luxemburg. This band is called ‘sleepy time gorilla museum’. I mean, what the fuck is that. I can’t even print a picture of it in my head. With a name like that, you get noticed.

The music is something completely different from what I normally listen too. Theatrical music. Like they piled up elements from all the Mike Patton Projects with some theatre influnences and soundscapes. 12 tracks, over 75 minutes long.

They definitely put some work to make this cd (by the way, it’s a re-release of their first album). Everything is on the right place, just like fantomas, every note belongs were it is. That makes this record interesting to listen to. But it’s also a schizophrenic record, i can imagine when you do some drugs, put your lights out and listen to this cd, you see things coming out of the walls or your cd player.

Not pretty things. Gorillas ain’t cute animals.

But however, it’s an interesting concept, this ‘S.T.G.M.’. It’s music for a select group, who stands open for new things, aren’t close minded and are willing to look over the boundaries of metal, rock and avant-garde. Hard to define, hard to judge. But I recommend it to anyone that thinks ‘hey what’s this’or ‘I’m bored with the usual songs with the usual structures’. If you have some cd’s of mr.bungle, primus, frank zappa or fantomas in your closet, check this out at your local record store or at www.sleepytimegorillamuseum.net. Enjoy.

P.S. To rate this record it’s hard. They are original, however I don’t think I will listen to this cd every week. It’s an record you put on for the right occassions. So, I took things like originality, music, listening pleasure etc in my rating and came out with...
