I know bands from weird countries but never heard of one coming from Bolivia. Alcoholik have the honour to be the first. ‘Toxicnology Part 1 & 2’ is the name of the album. 22 tracks. Probably they got a discount if they recorded two albums at once. And decided to put all the songs on one record. Well let me get this straight first: 22 tracks is always too much. You can’t blast 22 tracks long and keep the attention at the music. However Alcoholika sometimes come really close; the songs aren’t that long and there are a lot of things happening. To Begin: The music is a combination of Industrial, Sepultura-like riffing, Dark Wave, Depeche Mode influences and some soundscapes. They hop from one to another. Song one is a dark intro, which is followed by nu-metal alike riffing in ‘Toxicnology’, which is followed with the mortal kombat sounds in ‘Etienne’.

Speaking about Mortal Kombat, this cd could be a perfect soundtrack for a game. What’s cool about this record is that they use a lot of aggressive beats and come nearer to a Ministry than an Orgy, to give an example. They keep almost all the songs up-tempo, and here and there you hear catchy refrains (‘Soufrir’) or Thrilling samples with Depeche Mode influences (‘Tristezza’). So they keep this record pretty diverse, not only with their music but also with the languages (German, Spanish, English). It’s in the advantage of Alcoholika. I recommend this cd to every open minded listener that is not afraid of some industrial and experimental drifts. But next time: less songs please. Pick your twelve best songs and you can get a pretty amazing record.
