The second full-length album from Baalphegor (don`t mistake them with Belphegor!). These guys are from Spain and play technical death metal. Spain is not exactly the first country when you think of metal (with some exceptions like Baron Rojo and Hamlet), but maybe there is something gathering there. With this interesting record, Baalphegor can compete with a lot of international bands.
Post Earthquake Age is a concept album about - if I am not mistaken - machines controlling humanity. Interesting to read and sometimes pretty surprising when vocalist Miguel shouts out Machine Codes(?) like UNPS2 and FIO2N4. It gives the cd a pretty cool atmosphere, wich is full of technical death metal with a lot of breaks, lots of riffs and outstanding drum patterns. I would say a perfect cross between Morbid Angel and Cryptopsy, and, according to the breaks, they sometimes get really close to mathcore bands like Dillinger or Discordance Axis. | |
However, they haven`t reached that level yet. That is not because of the music (for goddamn` they can play), but sometimes they forget to write memorable riffs and songs. However, with a song like Ansiphan they come close to those two bands.
The cd bashes and blasts for 36 minutes long. Sometimes it will leave you in a state of confusion, and sometimes it will build up quite some aggressive emotion. The cool solos from Marc and David, the instrumental outro post earthquake age and the midtempo part in The New Adoreds however, provide for the rare rest-breaks on this cd. Maybe some stylistic changes in this music can be a benefit to the listener, but fans of aggressive, hard technical death metal will appreciate this record.
In any case, they bring metalheads an interesting cd.
