In 2005 Opeth released (according to some people of the music press) one of the best albums they ever made. In 2006 Opeth re-releases this album, but now with a special DVD and a cover of Deep Purple’s ‘Soldier Of Fortune’. I’m not going to talk about the songs on this album, because Roy did it a year ago already. You can read his review by clicking here.
The DVD contains the whole album in 5.1 audio (which I’m really not going to discuss in this review), the video of the song ‘The Grand Conjuration’ (which you might have seen on TV or the internet, otherwise you can check it out by clicking here) and a documentary called: Beyond Ghost Reveries.
The documentary is about the recording of the album Ghost Reveries, isn’t that a surprise?
You can see the band members smoking cigarettes while Martin Lopez (who left Opeth a few months ago) is recording the drums. | |
Akerfeldt talks about how happy he is with his voice and you can see him doing his thing in the studio. Lindgren explains why they didn’t record this album in The States this time and so on.
The documentary is not only about the recording of Ghost Reveries. There’s also a short part about Opeth on tour and a description of how is it to play in Opeth.
The documentary is nice for the fans and people who need an introduction for this band. But it’s just ordinary documentary about a band recording an album.
I think almost everybody knows the songs on Ghost Reveries already and when you have it you don’t need this special edition. When you’re a big Opeth fan you already have this special edition and I guess that you don’t think that this is just an ordinary DVD about a band recording his album.
