Killswitch Engage is one of the leaders in the so-called metalcore genre, or to be more precise, Killswitch Engage is the leader. The band has proven this with The End Of Heartache. However, to make an album that would surpass this one is almost impossible, so, mister Dutkiewicz and his other band mates were facing a huge challenge.

After listening to As Daylight Dies for several times, I can only say that this album isn`t better or worse than The End Of Heartache. Let`s just say it sounds a lot like it.
If you have ever listened to The End Of Heartache you will know what I mean when I say that As Daylight Dies has the same sound. You can compare it with the structure of Use Your Illusion 1 and 2 of Guns `n Roses (naturally, there is no musical comparison with Killswitch Engage). What I am trying to say is that the album has the following structure: intro, heavy song, soft song, heavy song with soft intro etc.

Don`t get me wrong, the album is full of great songs with moshparts, brutal screaming and clean vocals, but it sounds too much like its predecessor.

If another metalcore band would have made this exact album, I would have said that the band was either a Killswitch rip off or I would have given them a 9 because of the great album. However, this is Killswitch, so no rip off, and for this band my standards are a bit higher, thus I will not give them a 9. I love the Killswitch sound and songs, but this album is too much like The End Of A Heartache. I had expected a lot more from Killswitch, so a 7.5 should do.

The interview I had with Adam is available at this link.
