With the release of their first ever live DVD, One Cold Winter’s Night Kamelot created a serious problem for themselves. There is simply no way that the band is ever going to top the quality presented on these discs. The sound and the pictures are pretty close to perfect, the experience of director Patric Ullaeus (Lacuna Coil & Within Temptation) really shows and the use of 18 cameras is impressive. What makes this release so much better than most others is the use of constantly moving cameras. Personally I absolutely dig the moving shots that were taken from the crowd. These truly capture the atmosphere, something that is far from easy. The show features an excellent light-show but due to the lasers and the huge stage lights there are some moments with insufficient lights in front, resulting in a few rather dark images.

This package comes as a double-DVD set. The first contains the entire 110-minute gig, that was recorded at the Rockefeller Musichall in Oslo on February 11th of this year. The second disc features over 120 minutes of extras. There is behind-the-scene footage, there are interviews and of course there are music videos of the band. A nice chapter is the making-of ‘The Haunting’, a video that shows Epica’s Simone Simons in a guest appearance. This lady also appeared at the Oslo gig. Steamhammer/SPV will also release a limited edition package with both the DVDs as well as two CD’s.
