First I’ve got to set something straight. In my review of the last Born From Pain album (In Love With The End) I wrote almost positive stuff, but a few weeks ago I listened to that album again and I didn’t like it anymore. It sounded boring and I didn’t had the ‘mosh feeling’ that I had in the beginning. So I listened to their new album called War a lot of times before I started to write my review.

Born From Pain is one of the hardest working bands I know. Because of the hard work there is no album that’s recorded in the same line-up. Before the recording of this album guitar player Stefan decided to leave the band. Born From Pain found a replacement in Dominik, who played guitar in Zero Mentality just before he entered Born From Pain.

The first time I listened to the new album, I didn’t like it. The second time I still didn’t like it. Then I put the album away for two weeks and listened to it again. The third time I liked it a lot more.
War is an album you’ve got to listen to several times to like it.

After doing that you’ll hear the typical Born From Pain songs again, which means they are brutal, contain mosh parts and are led by the monotonous vocals from singer Che. Luckily for us the band has asked Jan Chris from Gorefest, Lou from Sick Of It All and Barney from Napalm Death to do some additional vocals. When you hear their vocals you understand what’s missing in Che’s vocals.
The band also asked Pepe from Hatesphere to play a guitar solo - isn’t their new guitar player good enough to play a solo was my first question when I read about this. The solo sounds very cool though, better than the solos they used to have on their albums.

Born From Pain released again a nice hardcore album with a lot of metal influence. The band is always on tour so check them out and give this album a try. I hope I still have the same opinion about this album two years from now.
