Slipknot is the million-album selling band that likes to shock the world once in a while. After the world-tour Slipknot released a great double live album and this year the band releases a double DVD called Voliminal: Inside The Nine.
I had to watch this DVD twice to get the point. What you see is weird, sometimes I didn’t understand why some parts are in the movie/documentary. There are a lot of short movies of band members and their roadies on tour, and between these you see the band live. Which is brilliant, you can see for example the drum solo from Joey Jordison from above his head while he’s flying throughout the arena.
Some of the weird parts are for instance a Beastie Boy loading his gun somewhere backstage, a fight where somebody gets kicked very hard, traffic signs and more of that kind of stuff. The DVD also features the normal tour report things, which means roadies guzzling a lot of alcohol and a few shots later throwing up in the bus, full stadiums going crazy for the band and more of the tour fun.
The biography that accompanied this DVD states that there are nine hidden ‘rabbit holes’ on the disc. | |
When you activate them you see a movie about one of the band members. I didn’t find a ‘rabbit hole’. When you found one you can mail and tell me. Mail to news@rockezine.com, thanks in advance.
On the second DVD you can find some live footage and five videos. More interesting on this DVD are the interviews. The band members talk about their normal live and the Chris Fen interview is recorded during his daily golf session. They talk about family and other stuff I really not wanted to know about Slipknot. Luckily there’s one band member that doesn’t work along with these interviews. I don’t know his name or number, but it’s the guy with al those nails in his mask.
The first DVD is very nice and it fits perfectly in the idea the band want to give the world. Unfortunately the second DVD shows the band members in their normal and social life and that’s not what I wanted to know or see. I hoped that they kept the masked dream alive!
