It’s autumn. A time when days are getting shorter and thoughts are getting longer. Time to contemplate, time to reflect. Transmission 0 probably thought that it would be a great décor and season to bring out their new album, called Memory Of A Dream. A title that represents the music.
A few years ago they released their debut simply called 0. It was a record full of good elements, but you could hear they were still searching for a sound. They found their sound, the searching is over. Memory For A dream, brilliant title. Brilliant album.
Sometimes you hear bands which are writing riffs that pass through you instead of being useful as wallpaper while you’re doing other things. A riff like in ‘Condor’ will make you shudder. From Isis to Neurosis and from Cult of Luna to Shora. | |
Transmission Zero doesn’t like it the easy way, they choose carefully. What is important, what not, what poses questions but no answers; how can you make a song long enough and still thrilling to listen to?
They succeed. Memory Of A Dream is of outstanding class. This is a record that you put on and an hour later you wake up, with only memories left of times you vaguely know. This will take you to a sea, let you taste the waves, almost drown you a couple of times and sometimes let you relax and float on them.
I can sum up the songs, but I’d say ‘go and feel’. This is by far the best Dutch record I’ve heard this year, and a favourite for my end-of-year list. Outstanding.
