Dominic Moon (bass, vocals and drums) and Tommy Hendriksen (guitars) make up the complete line-up of Underground Moon. Raised in New York’s Greenwich Village by parents who were devout “deadheads”, Dominic discovered “The Beatles”, which sealed his musical fate. This fascination for “The Beatles” shows in his music, for this can well be categorized as modern “Brit-pop/rock”. Dominic delivers a very versatile album full of different styles ranging from heavy John Lennon influences in track 6: “Unknown” to a more “Foo Fighters”/”Nirvana” oriented “Shed the skin”. Even a typical “Korn” sound, especially the guitar samples, is displayed in track 8: “Acid Superman”. | |
There’s even a more guitar-oriented version of “Midnight Oil’s” 80’s-hit “Beds Are Burning”, which is a welcome addition to the album. As they are only two men, one can of course expect a lot of electronics and drum computers (you can’t play 2 instruments at the same time). It will be interesting to see how they will cope with this on a live stage. In all, this refreshing modern rock-cd with 60’s influences is a fairly good record, especially when you consider that this is their debut. Thumbs up! (Matthijn) |
