Fans of heavy guitar blues, watch out, Pantera members Vinnie Paul (drums), Dimebag Darrell (guitar, R.I.P.) and Rex Brown (bass guitar) have teamed up with notorious country/western outlaw singer David Allan Coe for a project titled Rebel Meets Rebel. The result is a varied album of heavy blues and metal songs, all with a principal role for the guitar, with great solos and heavy riffs.
The album starts with ‘Nothin’ To Loose’, a song that starts with the sound of a woman getting an orgasm, followed by heavy up-tempo blues riffs. A combination that sounds quite fresh especially when the typical Darell guitar solo is added. He shows how a solo should sound, aggressive, emotional and yet melodic.
The song ‘Cowboys Do Need More Dope’ has a Jimmy Hendrix atmosphere considered the singing, the riffs and the guitar playing, while the title song is a typical western blues song.

Halfway the album the songs get more and more metal, starting with ‘Arizona Rivers’ and ‘Get Out Of My Life’. These songs form actually one song which starts acoustic and halfway through become a metal song with real heavy riffs and a superb guitar solo. Remarkable is ‘No Compromise’, as the title implies a song without any compromise, mean and aggressive. Rebel Meets Rebel is an album with music from blues to metal, and without weak moments. I hope we will hear more from these guys in the future. This album is not boring at all because of the various musical styles. Long-live the repeat button.
