I like my guitar solo. And when I take my guitar solo I like to have it balanced, emotional and with a sense of creativity. Note that I’m not even mentioning the word originality here since that might just be impossible. But it must be written on the premises of being an interpretation of, and reaction upon, the musical scope of a song. Kryzalid here seems to disagree.
Their crusty and aggressive thrash metal is littered with bland and repetitive fret-speeding soloing that sounds the similar each and every time it kicks in. At first entertaining, by the end of the second song you start wondering if the lead guitarist has yet discovered that there are actually more than just two or three different scales to wrap your solos around. And this is sad because underneath the crusty thrash metal is honestly quite palatable.

While sounding organic and aggressive, the music is technical, complex and written with a good notion of composition, at times coming close to the guitar-wizardry of Death. The production of this disc is somewhat crude and together with the guitars and vocals (which are a bit monotonous) tends towards more hardcore based metal, in the vein of Pro-Pain’s landmark debut album, Foul Taste Of Freedom. Which is altogether not a bad thing if you ask me. On the whole I’d characterize this as most likely worth of interest for hardcore/thrash fans, but I for myself must admit that by the time track number five starts - with another solo – I just have to push the stop button. Alas.
