As soon as Ravager starts after the short intro one bands comes to mind: Hate Eternal. The sound, the riffs, the solo`s, the vocals, everything. Too bad. Storm Of Sin isn`t a bad album but I`ve heard it all before. If it doesn`t remind me of Hate Eternal it reminds me of Morbid Angel. And, actually, Hate Eternal sounds a lot like Morbid Angel too. Formerly known as Domain, Ravager hails from Mexico and are produced by Juan `Punchy` Gonzales who used to be the live sound man of... Morbid Angel. Ah, there you have it. The band are clearly big Morbid Angel fans and then they get the chance to record with their favorite band`s former sound man. Of course they took it. The result is disapointing. | |
They just didn`t try to avoid the obvious result: sounding like Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal. The production is disapointing as well. The guitars are blurry and the drums are clearly edited with a computer. Especially the toms sound rediculously tight and weak. Sometimes it sounds like they`ve been recorded slower and speede up before adding guitars and vocals. Why isn`t it a bad album then? Well, they`re fast, brutal, good musicians and although they`re not very original Ravager is good at what they do. And after listening to the album a couple of times it does get better. Just don`t play any Morbid Angel or Hate Eternal right before or after listening to Ravager.
