True Self is the third full-length from the band from Chicago, after Redefine and Scars, the first for DRT Entertainment and produced by Ulrich Wild (Pantera, Rob Zombie, Static-X) who is responsible for an incendiary mix. I have to admit I didn’t know the band (shame on me!) but they really surprised me with their music. It is described best as catchy nu-metal with great melody and strong vocals.

Newcoming frontman AJ Cavalier (vocals) leads the band through all the songs with his brilliant voice, sometimes screaming, then again really metallic and a bit later very melodic. He has the capacity to vary these different ways of singing without any problem. The music is full of energy, grooves and is very melodic with heavy riffs and great solos (by Adam Zadel and Shaun Glass) and a very strong rhythm section (Tim King on bass and Tom Schofield on drums).

This album rocks, that’s for sure!

True Self doesn’t contain any weak songs, but surely there are several highlights, such as `Fight For Life` (very powerful) and `Let Go` (great melodic song). With `Give It Up` the band has a strong single. The ultimate highlight however is without any question the last song of the album and is titled appropriately `The Last Song`; it features a strong structure, great vocals and a superb solo! This is metal at its best; the song is definitely one of the best songs I have heard lately.
