Thom Mathews is the guitar player of Quinta Essentia and Hallows Eve. With Mindcraft Mathews releases his debut as a solo artist.

This instrumental album contains seven tracks full of real metal riffs and solos. Mathews has been assisted by Stephen Cocker (keyboards and bass guitar) and Lance Wright (drums).
The production is not quite good enough: The guitar can be heard very well whereas the keyboards and drums are on the background. His experience as a dark metal guitar player is noticeable on Mindcraft; besides the many solos, there are also a lot of metal riffs.

These parts are hard to get through and they also make the album boring.

On the tracks ‘Prepare for Crash Landing’ and ‘Mindcraft’ there are symphonic elements added, while ‘Blood Letting’ features a very technical solo. And on ‘Vortex of Abandon’ there is a sort of musical battle between the keyboards and the guitar. The album ends with the semi acoustic overdose called ‘Coma-Dose’.

Mindcraft might be interesting for the real guitar freak. For those who are not instrumental-fans it`s best to ignore this album.
