Rob Lamothe was rather productive last year. He released a live album “Steering With My Knee”; and also this “Wishing Well Motel” came out. Although “Steering…” proved to be a slight disappointment (the live atmosphere of Rob on stage just wasn’t there on this record); this “Wishing Well Motel” is a brilliant moment of peace. This man proves, again, to be a soul searcher and an inspiring narrator as well. Every song Rob Lamothe writes is a little, mostly melancholic/realistic, story. He sings every word like it’s taken from his heart. That the man got a great voice completes the image of perfection. Actually, every word in this review has no meaning; you just have to hear this music. It’s just a pity that this CD isn’t released by a record company that can promote this album in a big way (you can only buy it at a concert or through his website: www.roblamothe.com). Therefore a lot of people won’t notice that there’s a great performer amongst us. | |
This album is perfect for when you like to end your evening quietly. The singer/songwriter material got a special touch because you got the feeling that you hear an animated, passionate man. He’s not in it for the big bucks; he makes music because he enjoys it. If you want to be a real critic, you can say that this album isn’t filled with difficult tunes and that the songs are probably alike. If you are a music lover you’ll have to admit that “Wishing Well Motel” is a statement filled with true emotion and passion. Rob Lamothe makes you wonder why other acts have all the fame and why quiet, nice to listen to, music with real feeling seems to have its destiny in the underground. Maybe it’s because the current society only knows hatred, anger and terror? Or that people just want to hear songs about love and escapism?
Just dare to float on this music and notice there’s more than the obvious…
