A demo CD from an American band nearly always comes very well provided. Most of the time it’s a real CD and not some crappy CD-R with no name on the album. It’s the same with this New York based trio called Bishop. The album is packed with a very nice cardboard package with some very nice artwork. That`s a plus, straigt off the bat. But what’s more important then the looks is of course the music. Bishop plays rock with a little metal influence, and it sounds far from perfect.

Bishop exists out of three brothers and most of the time that doesn’t make yourself better as a musician. For example, can you kick out your brother from the band if he sucks? Or can you have a family evening without talking or discussing about the band? In my opinion the answer on both questions is: no.

My first rule is: never start a band with both of your brothers, if you do, your looking for trouble.
On Steel Gods Bishop tries to be something that they aren’t. The whole album I get the feeling they would like to sound as some famous rockers. For that famous sound they stole some 70’s guitar riffs.
Next to those riffs they have to focus more on the vocal lines. The vocals sound forced and do the same thing as the guitar, they steal the guitar part.

This release didn’t exactly make my evening. I`ll never listen to `Steel God` again.
