Next Waste Dimension (NWD), from Deventer, The Netherlands, recorded their first demo entitled The Delta Machine. NWD is Niels Achtereekte on bass, synthesizer and programming, Rikkert Achtereekte on guitar, vocals and programming and Jorik Tijssen on drums. They combine old school death metal with a modern synthesizer sound resulting in a fresh new style, sounding like Ayreon with heavy grunts. NWD can also easily be compared to The Gathering in their early days. Lots of atmospheric electronica and samples are flying around over a solid wall of guitars, bass, drums (even double bass) and heavy grunting. Being with only three people it is almost impossible not to use any form of programming. This demo contains 4 tracks, entitled: Opaque, Technofobia, I Am Energy, and 1st Encounter.

All songs are comparable in sound and tempo but all have a different identity, one using slightly more electronica than the other. Track 3, I Am Energy, has the incredibly fantastic cult movie "Dune" for a subject. The song even incorporates several speech samples from the movie (for insiders, the part were Paul Atreides speaks to the old mother Bene Gesserit when he became the Kwizatz Haderach). Other lyrics generally question the advantages of new technology and progress; is it always an improvement? (The grunting is surprisingly good to understand). This band will surprise death metal fans and synthesizer lovers alike and has a promising future. If they manage to keep this quality for 10 tracks, then these guys will have a killer debut album. Keep up the good work!
